Robotic Rehabilitation Helps Patients Regain Independence

Acıbadem Taksim Hospital aims to speed up the recovery process of patients suffering from difficult neurological diseases with modern solutions in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation. The Robotic Rehabilitation Unit, headed by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çorum, offers high-tech treatment options to people with serious health problems such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), spina bifida, and other neurological disorders. This rehabilitation process, especially with robotic devices, helps patients regain their ability to move independently. While treatment with robotic devices supports the development of patients’ motor skills, it is also supported by an intensive physical rehabilitation program.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çorum creates personalized treatment plans for patients struggling with these challenging diseases and follows the treatment processes in detail. The main goal of robotic rehabilitation is to ensure that patients achieve the best results in the shortest possible time. Thanks to the treatment protocols performed in this unit, patients have the chance to return to their daily lives faster.

Fatma Kahraman’s Recovery Process

Fatma Kahraman, 79, suffered a stroke in Germany at the end of February. After a week of intensive care in Germany, Fatma Kahraman wanted to continue her treatment in Türkiye due to negative feedback from doctors and was brought to Turkey by air ambulance. However, the first centers she contacted in Turkey were not adequately equipped. Her family reached Acıbadem Taksim Hospital and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çorum while searching for the best treatment options.

Ms. Fatma was first admitted to the hospital when she was struggling with serious health problems such as respiratory failure, lung infection, and urinary tract infection. She also had difficulty eating and swallowing and had lost the ability to speak. The team led by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çorum controlled Fatma’s infections, provided respiratory support and stabilized her diet. At the end of the first two weeks of treatment, the patient’s general condition began to improve and physical therapy was also emphasized. Despite challenges such as the patient’s blood pressure, the treatment continued without interruption.

Fatma’s daughter describes her mother’s recovery process as follows:  “My mother had a stroke in February and was treated in Germany. But we could not find the right treatment there. My mother’s condition was bad and we quickly brought her to Türkiye. After meeting Mustafa Hoca, our treatment process changed. My mother was in a very difficult situation due to respiratory failure and infections. Already in the first weeks, thanks to Dr Mustafa and his team, we started to see small improvements in my mother. She can now walk around the house with a walker and her speech has improved a lot. We are very happy with the treatment we received at Acıbadem Taksim Hospital.

After two months of robotic rehabilitation, Fatma was able to walk independently with a walker. She is still being treated for weight problems and weakness in her knees, but the process has been greatly accelerated thanks to these devices. While speech therapy and gait rehabilitation continue, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çorum predicts that Fatma will be able to walk more comfortably after her knee surgery shortly.

Mrs. Fatma expressed her satisfaction with the treatment process in the following words:  “I would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who cured me. May God be pleased with them.

The Robotic Rehabilitation Unit at Acıbadem Taksim Hospital aims to ensure that patients reach their maximum recovery capacity through high-tech treatment methods. The treatments offered in the unit are not limited to physical therapy but are designed to meet all of the patient’s needs with multifaceted support such as swallowing therapy, speech therapy, respiratory rehabilitation, and cardiac rehabilitation. In addition, the treatment process is planned individually for each patient and is constantly updated, taking into account the patient’s individual condition, needs, and goals. In this way, patients adapt more quickly to the rehabilitation process, and their recovery is accelerated.

Especially in severe neurological cases, such advanced technology-assisted rehabilitation methods make a big difference. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çorum and his team not only help patients regain their physical health but also aim to help them return to their daily lives faster and more independently. The Robotic Rehabilitation Unit at Acıbadem Taksim Hospital continues to be a beacon of hope for patients and their families with its achievements in this field.
