Prof. Özgür Fırat is a general surgeon with a strong focus on nutritional support and metabolic and bariatric surgery. He earned his medical degree from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2005 and has since built a clinical and academic career centered on surgical care, perioperative nutrition, and complex gastrointestinal procedures. He is currently affiliated with Acıbadem Health Group (2025), where he provides surgical care and contributes to multidisciplinary teams managing surgical, nutritional and metabolic conditions. His practice includes bariatric and metabolic surgery, hernia repair, and advanced gastric and esophageal procedures. Prof. Fırat is active in professional societies both nationally and internationally. He serves on the board of the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Association and is a founding board member of the Gastric and Esophageal Surgery group. He is also a member of KEPAN (Clinical Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition Association), ESPEN (European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism), the Turkish Surgical Association, the Aegean Surgical Association, and the Hernia Association. Committed to improving surgical outcomes through evidence-based nutrition and collaborative care, Prof. Fırat combines clinical expertise with leadership in specialty organizations to advance practice and education in surgical nutrition and metabolic surgery.
