Dr. Sırrı Özkan

Dr. Sırrı Özkan is a General Surgery specialist at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. He practices within the hospital’s General Surgery and Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery units, and his subspecialty interests are the treatment of hemorrhoids and anorectal diseases and obesity surgery. He has been in medicine for more than 40 years, and his surgical work covers anorectal conditions, hernia repair, colorectal surgery, obesity surgery, breast surgery and reconstruction, gynecomastia treatment and tracheal surgery.

Dr. Özkan graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1986 and completed his General Surgery training at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital in 1992. He then worked at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital from 1993 to 2003. In 2006 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, where he continues to practice as a general surgeon.

Clinical focus

A significant part of Dr. Özkan’s work concerns anorectal disease. He assesses and treats anal fissures and hemorrhoids, including hemorrhoid surgery when conservative measures are not sufficient, and manages other anorectal disorders. He also performs colorectal surgery and repairs umbilical and inguinal hernias. The choice between non-surgical management and an operation depends on the individual findings, and this is discussed with each patient after examination.

Within the Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery unit, Dr. Özkan carries out obesity surgery for patients in whom a surgical approach to weight management is considered appropriate. His practice also includes breast surgery, namely mastectomy and breast reconstruction, as well as the treatment of gynecomastia in men. In addition, he performs tracheal surgery. Suitability for any of these procedures is determined only after an individual clinical assessment, and the expected course, risks and alternatives are explained beforehand.

How Dr. Özkan works with international patients

Dr. Özkan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Özkan before deciding whether to travel; a video consultation does not replace an in-person examination, and any surgical decision is confirmed only after the patient has been seen at the hospital.
