Prof. Ahmet Koç, MD

Prof. Ahmet Koç, MD is an otorhinolaryngology specialist in the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit of Acibadem Kozyatagi Hospital in İstanbul. With more than 43 years in medicine, he evaluates and treats conditions of the ear, nose and throat, including disorders of hearing and balance, throat and adenoid conditions, and structural and aesthetic problems of the nose.

Dr. Koç studied at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine from 1983 to 1990 and completed his specialty training in Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 1997. He then worked at Aksaz Deniz Kuvvetleri Hospital from 1997 to 1999, at Haseki Training and Research Hospital from 2000 to 2006 and at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine Vakfı Hospital from 1999 to 2007. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2006. He is a member of the Turkish Ear Nose and Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Association, the European Academy of Otology and Neurotology, the Mediterranean Countries Otology and Audiology Association and the Politzer Society. His published work includes studies on the treatment of chronic ear disease, the effects of topical ear preparations on hearing in chronic otitis media, tympanosclerosis after tympanostomy tube insertion, sudden sensorineural hearing loss and high-resolution computed tomography of the temporal bone and mastoid air cell system.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Koç’s practice concerns the nose. He performs septoplasty to correct a deviated nasal septum, which can contribute to nasal obstruction, and septorhinoplasty, in which septal correction is combined with reshaping of the external nose. Whether a functional, aesthetic or combined approach is appropriate depends on the individual anatomy and the patient’s concerns, which are assessed during consultation.

In the throat, his areas of expertise include tonsil surgery, pharyngitis and adenoid conditions. In the ear, he assesses patients with hearing loss and with vertigo and balance disorders, an area that overlaps with his memberships in otology and neurotology societies. Treatment recommendations are based on the patient’s history, the clinical examination and any relevant test results, and not every condition requires surgery.

How Dr. Koç works with international patients

Dr. Koç consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as CT or MRI reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit.
