Prof. Ahmet Öztürk, MD

Prof. Ahmet Öztürk, MD is a hematology specialist in the Hematology Department at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul. He has more than 42 years in medicine, and his clinical work covers acute and chronic leukemias, anemia, immune-mediated blood disorders, diseases of the bone marrow and CAR T-cell therapy.

Dr. Öztürk graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy Faculty of Medicine in 1984 and worked in Flight Medicine from 1985 to 1987. He completed his training in Internal Medicine in 1992 and in Hematology in 1995 at Gülhane Military Medical Academy. At GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital he was appointed Assistant Associate Professor in 1995, Associate Professor in 1997 and Professor in 2002, and he headed the Hematology Clinic there from 2002 to 2009. In 1997–1998 he worked at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Bone Marrow Transplantation Center. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2011. He is a member of the Türk Hemotoloji Association. His published work includes studies on the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome with etoposide, thioguanine and cytarabine in elderly patients, on idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, and on prognostic factors in several solid tumors.

Clinical focus

Dr. Öztürk’s practice covers both malignant and non-malignant hematology. He evaluates and treats patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia, with chronic myeloid leukemia, and with other bone marrow diseases. CAR T-cell therapy is among the treatment approaches within his area of expertise. Because these conditions and treatments differ considerably in course and intensity, the suitability of any option is assessed individually on the basis of the diagnosis, the stage of disease and the patient’s general condition.

He also sees patients with anemia, including iron deficiency anemia, and with immune-related conditions such as immune thrombocytopenia and Henoch-Schönlein purpura. Castleman disease is also within his field. Assessment of these conditions typically begins with a careful history and a review of laboratory findings, so that further testing and treatment can be directed at the underlying cause.

How Dr. Öztürk works with international patients

Dr. Öztürk consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
