Aslı Saran İkizler, MD

Aslı Saran İkizler, MD is a radiation oncology specialist who practices in the Radiation Oncology unit at Acibadem Bursa Hospital in Bursa, Turkey. Her clinical work is focused on radiotherapy as part of cancer care, with particular attention to head and neck cancers, brain tumors, gastrointestinal cancers and breast cancer.

Dr. İkizler studied medicine at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine between 1981 and 1987. From 1988 to 1997 she worked at Bursa Devlet Hospital. Between 1997 and 2001 she was based at the Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine Radyasyon Onkolojisi Department, and in 2001 she completed her specialty training in radiation oncology at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine. From 2002 to 2009 she practiced at Ali Osman Sönmez Oncology Hospital, and in 2009 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. She is a member of the Radyasyon Onkolojisi Association, the Turkish Cancer Research and Fight Institution Bursa Branch, Onkoday, the Trauma and Emergency Surgery Association and the Emergency Medicine Association.

Dr. İkizler plans and oversees radiotherapy for adults with a range of solid tumors. Her areas of expertise include head and neck cancers, brain tumors, gastrointestinal oncology and breast cancer. Radiotherapy may be considered on its own or alongside surgery and systemic treatment, and the suitability of any approach depends on the individual diagnosis, stage and overall health of the patient. Treatment decisions are made after a review of the available clinical and imaging information.

Her published work reflects these interests. She has co-authored studies on treatment response and survival in patients with non-small cell lung cancer treated curatively, on infections in lung cancer patients receiving radiotherapy (published in Cancer Detection and Prevention and Lung Archives), and on factors influencing cosmetic results after breast conserving management (published in The Breast). Further papers in the Journal of Breast Diseases, the Turkish Journal of Oncology and Kanser Gündemi cover bilateral breast cancer, invasive papillary and small cell breast cancer, acinic cell carcinoma of the upper lip and Merkel cell carcinoma.

How Dr. İkizler works with international patients

Dr. İkizler consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
