Aysun Soylu, MD

Aysun Soylu, MD is a Clinical Laboratory specialist at Acibadem Dr. Sinasi Can (Kadikoy) Hospital in İstanbul. Her work is centered on clinical laboratory medicine and medical biochemistry, and she has more than 33 years in medicine. As a laboratory physician, her role is to support diagnosis and patient care by providing and interpreting laboratory evaluation in coordination with the clinical teams that request testing.

Dr. Soylu graduated from Trakya University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1993 and completed her specialty training in Medical Biochemistry at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2003. She then worked in the Clinical Laboratory of Amerikan Hospital from 2003 to 2005 and served as Emergency Laboratory Supervisor at Amerikan Hospital from 2005 to 2006. From 2006 to 2009 she was Clinical Laboratory Supervisor at İtalyan Hospital. She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2008. She is a member of the İstanbul Medical Chamber, the Clinical Biochemistry Association and the Türk Biyokimya Association.

Dr. Soylu’s areas of expertise are clinical laboratory medicine, medical biochemistry, clinical laboratory services, emergency laboratory services and diagnostic laboratory evaluation. Her work involves the biochemical analysis of patient samples and the evaluation of laboratory results so that treating physicians can use them in reaching a diagnosis and planning care. In laboratory medicine, results are interpreted together with the patient’s history, examination findings and other investigations, and Dr. Soylu’s role is to support this process rather than to replace the assessment made by the treating specialist.

Her experience in emergency laboratory services relates to the laboratory testing that is required when results are needed within short time frames for patients in acute settings. In this context, the laboratory works closely with the emergency and inpatient teams so that requested tests are processed and reported in a manner that supports timely clinical decisions. Diagnostic laboratory evaluation also includes reviewing whether results are consistent with the clinical picture and whether additional or repeat testing may be helpful; any such recommendation is made in discussion with the physician responsible for the patient.

How Dr. Soylu works with international patients

Dr. Soylu communicates in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. For international patients, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, including laboratory and pathology results, MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing reports and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant and a discussion of the options. Because laboratory medicine is closely tied to the work of the treating specialist, laboratory-focused support is delivered in coordination with the wider clinical team.
