Begüm Bengi, Dietitian

Begüm Bengi is a dietitian in the Nutrition & Diet unit at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, with a subspecialty focus on functional medicine. She has more than four years of experience in the field and works with adult patients whose medical conditions or treatments require structured nutritional support, including diabetes, malnutrition, gastrointestinal disease and surgery, oncology and neurological conditions.

Her training combines clinical nutrition with functional medicine dietetics. In 2025 she completed the Functional Medicine Dietetics program at the Functional Medicine Institute, as well as courses from the Clinical Enteral Parenteral Nutrition Association (KEPAN) on the nutrition of patients with diabetes and malnutrition and on the importance of early enteral nutrition in oncology and neurology patients. In 2024 she completed the ESPEN LLL Course on the Approach to Enteral Nutrition in Adults and a course on Nutritional Support in Oncology Patients from the Geriatric Dietetics Association and Dietitian Academy. Earlier training includes a Certificate Program on Gluten-Related Diseases in All Aspects and Gluten-Free Nutrition (Gastroenterology Dietetics Association, ASEGEM, DR. Schar), a Nutrition in Cancer Course (Surgical Oncology Association, Gastroenterology Dietetics Association) and an Applied Sports Nutrition Certificate Program at the Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Continuing Education and Development Center. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Nutrition at Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Health Sciences. Her clinical background includes dietitian internships at hospitals and nutrition-focused organizations, and in 2024 she served as a workshop trainer at an international medical students congress.

Clinical focus

Begüm Bengi provides medical nutrition therapy for patients with diabetes, including carbohydrate counting and dietary management of hypoglycemia. She works with patients who have, or are at risk of, malnutrition and supports those with gastrointestinal diseases, including nutrition before and after gastrointestinal surgery. Enteral nutrition is a further area of her practice, in particular for patients undergoing oncology treatment and for patients with neurological conditions, where nutritional needs are assessed and adjusted alongside the medical team.

Beyond disease-specific nutrition, she applies functional medicine dietetics, offers sports nutrition guidance and advises on healthy lifestyle nutrition. Dietary plans are developed individually, taking into account the patient’s diagnosis, current treatment, laboratory findings and personal preferences, and are reviewed over time as the clinical situation changes.

How Begüm Bengi works with international patients

Begüm Bengi consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, such as laboratory and pathology results, imaging reports, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing findings and previous treatments, a clinical assessment and a discussion of the nutritional options in the context of the wider care plan. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation remotely or to follow up after an in-person visit.
