Prof. Berrin Karadağ, MD

Prof. Berrin Karadağ, MD is an Internal Medicine physician at Acibadem Dr. Sinasi Can (Kadikoy) Hospital in İstanbul. She has worked in medicine for more than 38 years, and her clinical interests include medical treatment, chronic disease management, health check-ups, healthy living, geriatric medicine and older adult health, and the treatment of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. She has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2012.

Dr. Karadağ graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1988. She began her career as a general practitioner at Kaman Mother and Child Health Center (1988–1990) and at Bağlar Mother and Child Health Center in Diyarbakır (1991–1992), followed by a biochemistry residency at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry (1992–1993). She trained in Internal Medicine at Taksim Training and Research Hospital, 2nd Internal Medicine Clinic (1993–1996), completing her specialty in 1997, and worked there as an Internal Medicine Specialist until 2002. She then completed a geriatrics subspecialty at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine (2002–2005). She subsequently served as a Geriatrics Specialist at Kayseri Training and Research Hospital (2006–2007), at İstanbul, Harbiye Private Diabetes Hospital (2007–2008) and at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital 2nd Department of Internal Medicine/Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinic (2008–2012), where she became an Associate Professor in 2012. She is a member of the Turkish Medical Association and the Academic Geriatrics Association. Her published work includes studies on metabolic syndrome and cognitive impairment in older adults, epicardial adipose tissue thickness in metabolic syndrome, subclinical hypothyroidism and metabolic syndrome, and aging and diabetes, as well as co-authored studies on genetic polymorphisms in polycystic ovary syndrome, Graves’ disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

Clinical focus

Dr. Karadağ provides Internal Medicine assessment and medical treatment for adults, with an emphasis on the ongoing management of chronic diseases. A central part of her practice is diabetes care, covering both Type 1 diabetes treatment and Type 2 diabetes treatment, including follow-up of patients whose condition is already established and review of existing treatment plans.

Drawing on her subspecialty training in geriatrics, she also focuses on older adult health, addressing the medical needs that arise with aging and coordinating the care of patients with several coexisting conditions. In addition, she offers health check-ups and guidance on healthy living, with attention to prevention and the early identification of health concerns across adulthood and older age.

How Dr. Karadağ works with international patients

Dr. Karadağ consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling or as part of follow-up.
