Assoc. Prof. Ebru Sevinç Ok, MD

Assoc. Prof. Ebru Sevinç Ok, MD is a nephrologist in the Nephrology Department at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir. She has more than 26 years in medicine, and her clinical work covers a broad range of kidney diseases, including nephrotic syndrome, kidney failure and kidney cancer, as well as haemodialysis and diabetes insipidus.

Dr. Ok graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2000. She completed her Internal Medicine training at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2007 and her Nephrology training at the same faculty in 2010. From 2010 to 2014 she worked at Izmir Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital, and in 2023 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. She is a member of ESOT (The European Society for Organ Transplantation), TTS (The Transplantation Society), ERA (European Renal Association), TONKD (Turkish Organ Transplant Institutions Coordination Association), the Turkish Medical Association, TIGED (Transplantation Immunology and Genetics Association) and TND (Turkish Nephrology Association).

Clinical focus

Dr. Ok evaluates and manages patients with kidney diseases across a range of presentations. Her areas of expertise include nephrotic syndrome, a condition in which the kidneys leak large amounts of protein into the urine, and kidney failure, in which kidney function declines to a degree that may require supportive treatment. For patients whose kidneys can no longer adequately filter the blood, she is experienced in haemodialysis, a procedure that removes waste products and excess fluid from the body through an external filter.

Her practice also includes diabetes insipidus, a disorder of water balance that leads to the production of large volumes of dilute urine, and the nephrological assessment of patients with kidney cancer, where kidney function is a consideration before, during and after treatment. In each case, the approach depends on the individual patient’s diagnosis, kidney function, existing test results and overall health, and any treatment plan is discussed with the patient after a full assessment.

How Dr. Ok works with international patients

Dr. Ok speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound, CT or MRI reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. For patients who are unable to travel at first, a video consultation with Dr. Ok can be arranged, during which existing records and test results can be reviewed and questions about further evaluation can be addressed.
