Ertuğrul Tekçe, MD

Ertuğrul Tekçe, MD is a radiation oncologist who practices in the Radiation Oncology unit at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2024 and has more than 22 years in medicine, with a clinical background centered on radiotherapy for cancer, including tumors of the brain and breast.

Dr. Tekçe graduated from Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in 2004 and completed his specialty training in radiation oncology at Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine in 2012. He then worked as a specialist in the Radiation Oncology Clinic of Adana Numune Training and Research Hospital from 2012 to 2014 and in the Radiation Oncology Clinic of Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital from 2015 to 2016. Between 2016 and 2024 he was a lecturer at Bezmiâlem Vakıf University, working in the Vocational School of Health Services – Radiotherapy Program and in the Faculty of Medicine Radiation Oncology Clinic. He is a member of the Türk Nöroonkoloji Association and the Türk Radyasyon Onkolojisi Association. His co-authored publications include work on radiotherapy-related prognostic factors in patients with brain metastases, the effect of radiotherapy volumes on late-term cosmetic outcomes and quality of life after breast-conserving surgery, a dosimetric comparison of radiotherapy techniques for gastric cancer after total gastrectomy, and a survey of radiotherapy for benign diseases in Turkey.

Clinical focus

Dr. Tekçe’s clinical work is in radiotherapy as part of cancer care. One area of his practice is the radiation treatment of brain tumors, which relates to his membership in the Türk Nöroonkoloji Association and to his published work on patients with brain metastases treated with whole brain radiotherapy or with a local boost. A second area is breast cancer radiotherapy, including treatment after breast-conserving surgery in patients with unifocal and multifocal or multicentric disease, a subject he has studied with respect to late-term cosmetic outcomes and quality of life.

More broadly, Dr. Tekçe provides radiotherapy for patients with a range of cancers. Radiotherapy planning depends on the type and location of the tumor, any prior surgery or systemic treatment, and the patient’s overall condition. Whether a particular approach is suitable is assessed for each patient individually after a review of imaging, pathology and previous treatment records.

How Dr. Tekçe works with international patients

Dr. Tekçe consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including whether radiotherapy is indicated and how it might be planned.
