Prof. Eser Kaya, MD

Prof. Eser Kaya, MD is a Nuclear Medicine specialist at Acibadem Kayseri Hospital in Kayseri, Turkey. Dr. Kaya graduated from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 1993. He then worked at Kayseri Belsin Health Center from 1993 to 1998 before beginning specialty training in Nuclear Medicine at Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine, where he worked from 1998 to 2003 and completed his training in 2003. From 2003 to 2008 he held a position in Nuclear Medicine at Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Medicine. In 2019 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the Turkish Nuclear Medicine Association, the European Association of Nuclear Medicine, and the Turkish Medical Association.

Dr. Kaya’s practice centers on nuclear medicine diagnostic evaluation and nuclear medicine patient assessment. Nuclear medicine uses small amounts of radioactive tracers to produce images that reflect how organs and tissues are functioning, and these findings are interpreted alongside a patient’s history, clinical examination and other imaging or laboratory results. Dr. Kaya reviews referrals and existing records to determine whether a nuclear medicine study is appropriate, and he interprets the resulting images in the context of the referring physician’s question.

His published research reflects this diagnostic orientation. Papers on which he is an author have appeared in journals including Annals of Nuclear Medicine, Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, Maturitas, International Orthopaedics and Clinical Toxicology. Topics include Tc-99m DTPA radioaerosol inhalation lung scintigraphy in blunt chest trauma, in welders and in an experimental model of organophosphate-induced pulmonary toxicity; gated SPECT evaluation of myocardial perfusion and function in patients with Behçet’s disease; Tc-99m MIBI SPECT imaging in lung carcinoma; and cerebral and cerebellar perfusion in postmenopausal women. This body of work is offered as background on his academic interests rather than as a description of every study performed in the department.

How Dr. Kaya works with international patients

Dr. Kaya speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who need support in other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including whether a nuclear medicine study would add useful information. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Kaya before deciding whether to travel; any imaging that is recommended would still need to be performed in person.
