Prof. Faik Acar Koç, MD

Prof. Faik Acar Koç, MD is a specialist in perinatology and high-risk pregnancies at Acibadem Bodrum Hospital in Muğla, Turkey, where he works in the Perinatology (High-Risk Pregnancy) Department. His clinical work centers on maternal-fetal medicine and on the assessment and follow-up of pregnancies that require specialized care. He has more than 46 years in medicine and has worked with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2014.

Dr. Koç graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1980 and completed his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1988. He became an Assistant Professor in 1990, an Associate Professor in 1994 and a Professor in 1999. In 2011 he received Perinatology specialty recognition from the Medical Specialization Board. He is a member of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Southeast Eurepean Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, the Turkish Maternal Fetal Medicine and Perinatology Association and the Turkish Gynecology and Obstetrics Association.

Dr. Koç’s practice is dedicated to perinatology and the care of high-risk pregnancies. This includes the evaluation of maternal conditions that may affect a pregnancy, the monitoring of fetal development and well-being, and the planning of follow-up for pregnancies in which the mother, the fetus or both need closer observation. His approach is grounded in maternal-fetal medicine, in which the health of the mother and the developing baby are considered together when assessing risks and discussing options.

Obstetric ultrasound is a central part of his work and is used to examine fetal anatomy and growth and to guide the follow-up of pregnancies identified as high risk. Dr. Koç has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on topics related to his field, including antenatal corticosteroid administration in preterm fetuses, long-term outcomes of fetal posterior fossa abnormalities diagnosed with fetal magnetic resonance imaging, prenatal ultrasound findings and cystinuria, and maternal and perinatal outcomes of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy.

How Dr. Koç works with international patients

Dr. Koç consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, MRI or CT reports, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit.
