Assoc. Prof. Ferda Çağavi, MD

Assoc. Prof. Ferda Çağavi, MD is a neurosurgeon in the Neurosurgery unit of Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir). Her clinical work covers conditions of the brain, pituitary gland, spine and spinal cord, and her subspecialty interest is the treatment of pituitary diseases. She has more than 34 years in medicine and works in Turkish and English.

Dr. Çağavi graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and completed her specialty training at the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery in 2000. From 2000 to 2002 she worked as a specialist physician in neurosurgery at Private Bayındır Ankara Hospital. Between 2002 and 2006 she served at Zonguldak Karaelmas University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery, as assistant associate professor, and from 2006 to 2007 she held the position of associate professor in the same department. She has been with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2007. She is a member of the Türk Nöroşirürji Association and the Sinir Sistemi Cerrahisi Association. Her published work includes clinical case reports and experimental studies on topics such as cerebral aneurysm, spinal tumors, spinal cord injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage and a training model for lumbar discectomy.

Clinical focus

In the cranial field, Dr. Çağavi evaluates and treats brain tumors, brain hemorrhage and cerebral aneurysms. She also manages hydrocephalus, a condition in which cerebrospinal fluid accumulates within the brain. Her subspecialty work concerns the treatment of pituitary diseases, including the assessment and treatment planning of disorders affecting the pituitary gland.

Her spinal practice includes spinal and spinal cord tumors, lumbar spinal stenosis and cervical spinal stenosis, as well as lumbar disc herniation and cervical disc herniation. Each case is assessed individually; the choice between observation, non-surgical management and surgery depends on the patient’s symptoms, imaging findings and overall health, and is discussed with the patient before any decision is made.

How Dr. Çağavi works with international patients

Dr. Çağavi consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
