Gamze Almak, MD

On this basis, she discusses with each patient the approaches that may be suitable for reducing the frequency and impact of attacks. Not every headache is migraine, and part of her role is to distinguish between different headache types and to identify features that may call for further investigation.

Dr. Almak also assesses and follows patients with epilepsy, a condition in which the choice of investigations and treatment depends on the type of seizures, how often they occur, and the individual’s overall health. Dizziness is another area of her practice; because it can arise from several different causes, careful history-taking and examination are important in deciding which further tests, if any, are needed. In addition, she works with polysomnography (sleep testing), an overnight recording of sleep that can help clarify sleep-related complaints and support decisions on further management.

How Dr. Almak works with international patients

Dr. Almak consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI or CT reports, laboratory results, previous operative notes, and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is also available for international patients, which allows an initial review of records or a follow-up discussion without traveling to İstanbul.
