Asst. Prof. Dr. Gonca Saraç

Asst. Prof. Dr. Gonca Saraç is a dermatologist in the Dermatology unit of Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul. She has more than 12 years of experience in medicine, spanning general practice in an emergency setting and specialist dermatology practice. Her published work includes research on serum inflammatory markers in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa, a case report of alopecia universalis, and a case report of acquired progressive lymphangioma.

Dr. Saraç graduated from Başkent University Faculty of Medicine in 2014. In the same year she began working as a general practitioner in the emergency service of Ersin Arslan Training and Research Hospital in Gaziantep. She completed her specialty training at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases in 2019, and in 2019 she also spent time as an observer at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. From 2020 she practised as a specialist in dermatology and venereal diseases at İstanbul Şile State Hospital, and in 2021 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. She is a member of the Turkish Dermatology Association, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, and the Association of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases.

Clinical focus

Dr. Saraç’s clinical work covers both inflammatory and immune-mediated skin diseases and common dermatological complaints. In the first group, she assesses and follows patients with Behçet’s disease, dermatomyositis and bullous pemphigoid, conditions in which skin findings may form part of a wider medical picture and in which management is planned according to the individual patient. She also provides active acne treatment, where the approach is selected according to the type and severity of the lesions and the patient’s history.

A further part of her practice concerns excessive sweating, including botulinum toxin treatment for excessive sweating in suitable patients after clinical assessment. She manages skin infections, among them athlete’s foot and Candida fungal infection, and addresses strawberry legs. Mole removal is also part of her practice and is offered following clinical evaluation of the lesion.

How Dr. Saraç works with international patients

Dr. Saraç consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients and may be used for an initial assessment or to discuss existing reports; any decision about treatment is made after appropriate clinical evaluation.
