Gülçin Doğusal İşgüder, DDS

Gülçin Doğusal İşgüder, DDS is a dentist in the Dental & Oral Health unit at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. Her published research includes a retrospective study of traumatic dental injuries in children, an assessment of what families know about dentoalveolar injuries, work on the relationship between childhood obesity and oral health, an evaluation of serum vitamin D levels in children with carious and hypomineralized teeth, and a survey of pediatricians’ knowledge about oral and dental health.

Clinical focus

Dr. İşgüder’s practice is dedicated to the dental care of children. Pediatric dentistry addresses the oral and dental health of infants, children and adolescents, and takes into account the child’s age, the stage of dental development, whether primary or permanent teeth are involved, and the child’s ability to cooperate during examination and treatment. Parents are usually involved in the discussion of findings and in decisions about care, and the approach is adapted to each child’s individual situation.

A second area of focus is dental trauma in children. Injuries to the teeth and surrounding tissues are relatively common in childhood and can affect both primary and permanent teeth. Assessment typically involves a clinical examination of the injured area and, where appropriate, a review of imaging, followed by a discussion of the possible approaches. The course of action depends on the type and extent of the injury, the teeth involved and the time that has passed since the injury occurred, and follow-up visits are often part of the care plan. Her membership in the IADT and her research on traumatic dental injuries reflect this interest.

How Dr. İşgüder works with international patients

Dr. İşgüder consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as dental X-rays, previous treatment records, laboratory results and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options with the family. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss a child’s case before travelling or as part of follow-up.
