Gülşah Güven, MD

Gülşah Güven, MD is a pediatrician at the Acibadem Bağdat Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul. Her practice covers the health of newborns, infants, children and adolescents, with an emphasis on routine follow-up, preventive care and the evaluation of common childhood conditions. She works within the Pediatrics unit of the clinic and sees patients from the first days of life through adolescence.

Dr. Güven studied medicine at Ege University Faculty of Medicine between 1991 and 1997. She then completed her specialty training in Pediatrics at Zeynep Kamil Women’s and Children’s Diseases Training and Research Hospital in 2002. From 2002 to 2006 she worked at Zeynep Kamil Women’s and Children’s Diseases Hospital, and in 2007 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, where she has continued her work in general pediatrics.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Güven’s work concerns the newborn period. She carries out newborn follow-up and reviews newborn screening tests, and she assesses and monitors newborn jaundice. Parents of young infants also consult her for infant colic and gas pain, which she evaluates in the context of feeding, growth and general well-being. Beyond infancy, she provides well-child follow-up, in which growth, development and nutrition are reviewed at regular intervals, and she advises on and administers childhood vaccinations according to the child’s age and history.

Dr. Güven also evaluates a range of common pediatric conditions. These include growth disorders in children, iron deficiency and anemia in children, and constipation in children, each of which may call for a careful history, examination and, where appropriate, laboratory testing before a management plan is discussed with the family. She sees children with upper respiratory tract infections and with childhood rash illnesses, distinguishing self-limiting conditions from those that need closer observation or further investigation. Her broader interest in child and adolescent health extends to nutritional concerns and the general assessment of older children and teenagers.

How Dr. Güven works with international patients

Dr. Güven consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as laboratory results, growth records, vaccination records, ultrasound reports and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the visit to the clinic. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination of the child and a discussion of the possible next steps with the parents. For families who are not yet in İstanbul or who wish to discuss a child’s condition or follow-up remotely, Dr. Güven also offers video consultations for international patients, which can be used to review reports and decide whether an in-person examination is needed.
