Rather than applying a fixed protocol, she discusses the available options with the patient and works toward a plan that reflects their specific condition, circumstances and preferences. Treatment plans may be reviewed and adjusted as the patient’s situation changes, and the patient is kept informed about the reasoning behind each step. Where relevant, Dr. Can works alongside colleagues within the Psychiatry & Psychology unit so that different aspects of a patient’s care are coordinated.

How Dr. Can works with international patients

Dr. Can consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and relevant documents, such as previous psychiatric or medical assessments, laboratory results, discharge summaries and details of current or past treatments, and arranges the appointment and hospital visit. A first consultation with Dr. Can typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of earlier evaluations and treatments, a clinical assessment, and a discussion of the options that may be appropriate. For international patients who are unable to travel initially or who wish to discuss their situation before a visit, video consultation is available. In every case, the emphasis is on a careful, individualized evaluation and on a treatment plan that the patient understands and can follow.
