In 2007 he moved to the Department of General Surgery at Klinikum rechts der Isar, Munich Technical University, where he headed the Pancreas Research Center / Pancreatic neuropathy and pain Unit from 2007 to 2018. In 2013 he spent time in the Liver, Biliary Tract and Pancreas Unit of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Between 2014 and 2018 he served as Second Full Professor and Head of the Liver, Biliary Tract and Pancreas Unit at Klinikum rechts der Isar, becoming Professor of General Surgery in 2016 and directing the Pancreas Research Center from 2015 to 2018. In 2019 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services as Head of the Liver, Biliary Tract and Pancreas Unit and became Director of the Pancreatic Cancer Research Center at Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University. He is a member of the International Association of Pancreatology/ IAP, the American Pancreatic Association/ APA, the European Pancreatic-Club/ EPC, the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association/ IHPBA, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Chirurgie/ DGCH and the Turkish Surgical Association/ TCD, among others.
