Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Engin

Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Engin is a medical oncologist in the Medical Oncology Department at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. He has more than 32 years in medicine and has been working with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2022. His clinical work is centered on the systemic treatment of solid tumors, including head and neck cancers, soft tissue and bone sarcomas, and cancers of the prostate, ovary, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts, stomach, colon and rectum, lung and thorax, and kidney.

Dr. Engin graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1994. He completed his Internal Medicine training there in 1999 and his Medical Oncology training in 2003, serving as a subspecialty resident in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology from 1999 to 2003. During the same period he attended the Tumor Biology and Immunology MSc Degree Program at Hacettepe University Oncology Institute, Division of Basic Oncology, as a special student. After working as a specialist doctor at Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkoşa, KKTC, in 2003 and at Özel Zonguldak A Medical Center in 2004, he joined Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology, where he held appointments as assistant professor (2004–2006), associate professor (2006–2012) and professor (2012–2021). In 2021 he held a professorship at Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital. He is a member of ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology), the Turkish Oncology Group Flims Alumni Club (FAC), the Turkish Internal Medicine Specialists Association and the Medical Oncology Association. He is a co-author of peer-reviewed publications on topics that include chemotherapy in metastatic pancreatic cancer, metronomic vinorelbine in elderly patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer, and metastatic renal cell carcinoma.

Clinical focus

Dr. Engin assesses and plans medical oncology care for a range of solid tumors. His areas of expertise include head and neck cancers, soft tissue and bone sarcomas, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer and kidney cancer. Within gastrointestinal oncology, he treats patients with pancreatic cancer, gallbladder and bile duct cancers, gastric cancer and colorectal cancer.

He also cares for patients with lung and other thoracic cancers. In each case, the treatment approach depends on the type and stage of the tumor, previous treatments and the patient’s overall condition, and is discussed individually with the patient after a review of the available findings.

How Dr. Engin works with international patients

Dr. Engin consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before or instead of traveling.
