Prof. Hüseyin Töz, MD

Prof. Hüseyin Töz, MD is a nephrologist at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir, where he works in the Nephrology Department. He cares for adults with kidney inflammation, kidney diseases, kidney failure, nephrotic syndrome and diabetic nephropathy, and his clinical practice also includes hemodialysis. He has spent more than 39 years in medicine, most of them in academic nephrology.

Dr. Töz graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1987 and completed his specialization in Internal Medicine at the same faculty in 1993, followed by nephrology training there in 1998. In 1999 he worked at the Nephrology Research Lab. of Leiden University Medical Center. He became an Associate Professor at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2003 and a Professor in 2009. His professional experience includes the Department of Internal Medicine at Ege University Faculty of Medicine (1988–1995), the Internal Medicine Clinic of the Ministry of Health Kütahya State Hospital (1993–1995) and the Department of Nephrology at Ege University Faculty of Medicine (1995–2023). In 2023 he worked at İzmir Ekonomi University Medical Point Hospital and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the Turkish Nephrology Association, the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Association of Organ Transplant Organizations Coordination and the European Renal Association. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on topics including kidney transplantation, AA amyloidosis and cardiovascular changes in kidney donors.

Dr. Töz evaluates and manages a range of kidney diseases, including kidney inflammation, nephrotic syndrome and kidney failure. His work also covers diabetic nephropathy, in which kidney function is affected by diabetes and requires ongoing monitoring of kidney function alongside the management of the underlying condition. Assessment in these areas generally relies on the patient's history, laboratory results, imaging and, where indicated, further diagnostic tests.

For patients whose kidney function has declined to the point where renal replacement is being considered, Dr. Töz's practice includes hemodialysis. The suitability and timing of dialysis are individual decisions that depend on the stage of kidney disease, laboratory findings, symptoms and the patient's overall health, and they are discussed with the patient after a clinical review.
