İbrahim Kavak, MD

İbrahim Kavak, MD is a general surgeon in the General Surgery unit at Acibadem Kozyatagi Hospital in İstanbul. His subspecialty focus is pancreatic, liver and biliary tract diseases, and his practice also covers common general surgical procedures such as inguinal hernia repair, mastectomy and thyroid surgery. Dr. Kavak graduated from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine in 1991 and completed his specialty training at Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine Department of General Surgery in 1998. He then worked at Turhal Tokat Devlet Hospital from 1998 to 2003 and at Aydın Devlet Hospital from 2003 to 2014, before moving to Kartal Yavuz Selim Devlet Hospital in 2014. Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Kavak’s work concerns diseases of the pancreas, liver and bile ducts. In these conditions the surgical decision depends on the individual findings, so the evaluation typically involves a careful review of imaging and laboratory results before any procedure is discussed.

Beyond hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, Dr. Kavak performs procedures within general surgery. These include repair of inguinal hernia, mastectomy for patients who require breast surgery, and thyroid surgery. Each patient is evaluated individually, and whether an operation is appropriate, and which approach is suitable, is determined after examination and review of the available diagnostic information.

How Dr. Kavak works with international patients

Dr. Kavak consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Kavak before deciding whether to travel; a final assessment may still require an in-person examination.
