Kenan Çekem, MD

Dr. Çekem graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and completed his Internal Medicine specialty training at Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 2003, following a residency at GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital from 1999 to 2003. Between 2006 and 2007 he also earned a master’s degree in Hospital and Healthcare Institutions Management at Beykent University. His early career included posts as a general practitioner at İzmir-Karşıyaka Gendarmerie Dispensary, consulting physician at İzmir-Güzelyalı Air Hospital, and Health Services Chief in flight medicine at Bursa-Yenişehir Airfield Command. From 2003 he worked as an Internal Medicine specialist at Air Force Academy Hospital, Academic Hospital and Şişli Memorial Hospital, and from 2011 at Kütahya Military Hospital. He went on to hold leadership roles as Chief Physician at Kütahya Air Recruit Training Brigade Military Hospital, Deputy Chief Physician at SB Kütahya DPÜ Evliya Çelebi EAH Hospital and, from 2017 to 2023, Chief Physician and Internal Medicine specialist at İstanbul-Yeşilyurt Air Force Academy Hospital. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çekem evaluates and medically manages a range of endocrine, metabolic, cardiovascular and digestive conditions seen in internal medicine. Thyroid disorders and their treatment form a particular area of interest. He also assesses and follows patients with prediabetes, type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes, hypertension, anemia and obesity. How Dr. Çekem works with international patients

Dr. Çekem consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as laboratory and pathology results, ultrasound or other imaging reports, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results, imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before travelling or as part of follow-up.
