Prof. Lütfi Özkan, MD

Prof. Lütfi Özkan, MD is a radiation oncologist in the Radiation Oncology unit at Acibadem Bursa Hospital in Bursa, Turkey. His clinical work centers on radiotherapy and the treatment of breast cancer. With more than 41 years in medicine, he has practiced in university, public and private hospital settings and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023.

Dr. Özkan graduated from Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine in 1985 and completed his compulsory service as a general practitioner at Siirt Devlet Hospital between 1985 and 1987. He then trained in radiation oncology at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital, completing his specialty training in 1991 and continuing there as chief assistant until 1995. In 1995 he moved to Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Radiation Oncology, where he worked as a specialist and, from 1996, as an assistant professor. He completed a fellowship at the University of Kentucky in 2000, was appointed associate professor in 2002 and professor in 2009, and served in the department as professor until 2015. His later positions include specialist roles at Denizli Onkomer Private Oncology Center (2004–2005), Denizli Private Health Hospital (2015–2018) and Ceylan İnternatiaonal Hospital (2018–2023).

Clinical focus

Dr. Özkan’s practice is focused on radiotherapy, also known as radiation treatment, and on the care of patients with breast cancer. Radiotherapy is one of several treatment options that may be considered for cancer patients, and whether it is appropriate, and in what form, depends on the individual diagnosis, stage and prior treatment. In consultation, Dr. Özkan reviews the patient’s pathology and imaging and discusses the possible role of radiation treatment within the overall treatment plan, in coordination with other specialists involved in the patient’s care.

He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications in journals including Tumori, Hepato-Gastroenterology, Saudi Medical Journal, European Journal of Gynaecological Oncology and Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Topics addressed in these papers include factors influencing axillary node metastasis in breast cancer, carcinoma originating from aberrant breast tissue, synchronous breast cancer in spouses, preoperative and postoperative chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced rectal cancer, and chemoradiotherapy for unresectable locally advanced pancreatic cancer.

How Dr. Özkan works with international patients

Dr. Özkan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
