Asst. Prof. Müjde Arapoğlu, MD

Asst. Prof. Müjde Arapoğlu, MD is a pediatrician at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Pediatrics unit. With more than 40 years in medicine, her practice centers on newborn follow-up, preventive child health monitoring and the diagnosis and treatment of common childhood conditions, including infectious diseases, iron deficiency and anemia, lactose intolerance in infants, colic, croup, rickets and PFAPA syndrome.

Dr. Arapoğlu completed her secondary education at Üsküdar Amerikan Koleji in 1986 and studied medicine at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine from 1986 to 1992. She completed her specialization in Child Health and Diseases at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1998. During her training she gained clinical experience abroad: at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in England (1989), in pediatric surgery at the University of Granada in Spain (1990) and in the Pediatric Emergency Unit at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA (1995). From 1998 to 2006 she worked at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital, and in 2006 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. In 2009 she received an academic appointment at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine. She is a member of the İstanbul Medical Chamber, the Pediatric Respiratory Tract Diseases Association, Türk Pediatri Kurumu and the Milli Pediatri Association. Her published work includes case reports and clinical studies in pediatric journals on topics such as Waardenburg-Shah syndrome in patients with proximal 13q deletion, Brunner’s gland adenoma as a cause of vomiting, brucellar arthritis of the knee in a child, raised transaminases as a clue to muscle disease, and an evaluation of poisoning cases admitted to a pediatric clinic.

Clinical focus

Dr. Arapoğlu provides general pediatric care from the newborn period through childhood. For infants, this includes newborn follow-up, newborn screening and jaundice treatment, and the assessment of feeding-related concerns such as lactose intolerance in infants, infant colic and gas pain. She also evaluates and treats iron deficiency in children and other forms of childhood anemia, as well as rickets.

A further part of her work is the diagnosis and treatment of childhood infectious diseases, including croup, and the assessment of children with recurrent fever in whom PFAPA syndrome is considered. Preventive child health monitoring, with age-appropriate assessment and scheduled follow-up, forms the basis of her approach to routine care.
