Assoc. Prof. Murat Kiraz, MD

Assoc. Prof. Murat Kiraz, MD is a neurosurgeon at Acibadem Ankara Hospital in Ankara, where he works within the Neurosurgery unit with a subspecialty focus on spine health. He graduated from Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine in 2008 and completed his neurosurgery training in 2017 at Bakırköy Prof. Dr. Mazhar Osman Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Training and Research Hospital, following research assistant posts at Samatya Training and Research Hospital and Haseki Training and Research Hospital. In 2023 he completed the Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Training Program at International Ube Academy Busan South Korea.

Dr. Kiraz began his career as a general practitioner at Çorum State Hospital and Mecitözü State Hospital and served as Branch Manager at Çorum Provincial Health Directorate. After specialty training he worked as a specialist physician at Sancaktepe Training and Research Hospital and Şemdinli State Hospital. He then held academic positions at Hitit University, first as Assistant Professor and later as Associate Professor and Head of Department, before practising at Lokman Hekim University Akay Hospital and VM Medical Park Ankara Hospital. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2025. He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association and the Türk Nöroşirürji Association, and his published work includes studies on spinal cord injury literature, lumbar disc degeneration, decision-making around lumbar microdiscectomy, and sinonasal complications of microscopic and endoscopic transsphenoidal hypophyseal surgery.

Clinical focus

Dr. Kiraz’s clinical practice centers on spine health. He evaluates and treats lumbar spinal canal stenosis and cervical spinal canal stenosis, as well as spine tumors and spinal cord tumors. His areas of expertise also include gliomas, hematomas, transverse myelitis, and anencephaly. Each patient’s condition is assessed individually, and the suitability of surgical or non-surgical management depends on the clinical picture and imaging findings.

In addition to spinal surgery, Dr. Kiraz works with device-based approaches for pain management, including spinal cord stimulation and epidural nerve stimulation. Whether such approaches are appropriate is determined after a detailed neurosurgical assessment and a review of previous treatments.

How Dr. Kiraz works with international patients

Dr. Kiraz consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the available options.
