Tijen Diri, MD

Tijen Diri, MD is a pediatrician at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where she works within the Pediatrics unit. With more than 36 years in medicine, her clinical work centers on newborn follow-up, well-child care, common childhood illnesses and the monitoring of growth, development and nutrition in children and adolescents.

Dr. Diri graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1990 and completed her pediatric training at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine Department of Child Health and Diseases in 1997. Her education record also includes Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Research Hospital in 2006. Her early career included posts at Ulukışla Devlet Hospital (1990–1991) and İstanbul Şile Mother-Child Health Center (1991–1992), followed by five years at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine Department of Child Health and Diseases (1992–1997). She then worked in public outpatient settings at İstanbul SSK Osmaniye District Polyclinic (1997–2001) and İstanbul Güngören District Polyclinic (2001–2006), alongside private practice (Özel Muayenehane) from 1998 to 2011. She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2013. Dr. Diri has co-authored articles in Çukurova University Journal of Medical Faculty, Çocuk Dergisi and Turkish Cardiol Society Archives on topics including the immunophenotypic classification of childhood Non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas, ventricular dysrhythmia and supraventricular tachycardias in infancy, arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia and pheochromocytoma in childhood.

Clinical focus

Dr. Diri’s practice covers general child and adolescent health from the newborn period onward. In the first weeks and months of life, she follows newborns and assesses common concerns such as newborn jaundice, infant colic and gas pain in infants. She provides structured well-child follow-up, including pediatric nutritional monitoring and the evaluation of growth and developmental disorders in children, so that changes over time can be recognized and discussed with families.

She also diagnoses and treats childhood infectious diseases and upper respiratory tract illnesses in children. Where a child’s findings suggest a condition that falls outside general pediatrics, Dr. Diri can help families understand the next steps in assessment.

How Dr. Diri works with international patients

Dr. Diri consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging — for example ultrasound or X-ray reports, laboratory results, growth records and discharge summaries — and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their child’s situation before travelling or as part of follow-up.
