Prof. Ümit İnce, MD

Prof. Ümit İnce, MD is a pathologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Pathology Department. His practice focuses on the laboratory examination and interpretation of tissue and cell samples to support diagnosis and clinical decision-making. He has more than 46 years in medicine and works in Turkish and English.

Dr. İnce graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1980 and completed his training in Medical Pathology at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1984. Between 1985 and 1987 he served as Chief Assistant of the Pathology Laboratory at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital and as a Pathology Specialist at Zeynep Kamil Women’s and Children’s Diseases Training and Research Hospital. From 1986 to 1987 he was a Lecturer and Pathology Specialist at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. He was Head of Pathology Laboratory at Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital from 1988 to 1997 and Deputy Chief Physician at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital from 1993 to 1994. In 1997 he worked as a Pathology Specialist at Oruç Pathology Laboratory, and in 2005 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the Ankara Pathology Association, the Turkish Pathology Association and the TTB İstanbul Medical Chamber.

Clinical focus

Dr. İnce’s work centers on diagnostic pathology: the microscopic and laboratory evaluation of samples taken from patients so that treating physicians can reach a diagnosis and plan care. This includes the evaluation of tissue samples, such as biopsies and surgical specimens, and the evaluation of cell samples, such as those obtained by fine-needle aspiration or cytology. A further area of his work is pathology laboratory practice, covering the processing, examination and reporting of specimens within the hospital laboratory. Pathology findings are provided to the clinical teams responsible for the patient and form one part of the overall diagnostic picture.

His selected publications include a study on HSP 60 expression in mucocutaneous lesions of Behçet’s disease (J Am Acad Dematol, 2001), a publication on ovarian cancer (Istanbul University Oncology Institute Publications, 1998) and a paper on the diagnostic value of stereotaxic FNAB and needle biopsy in mammographically detected nonpalpable breast lesions (Clinical Development, 1999).

How Dr. İnce works with international patients

Dr. İnce consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Pathology evaluation is carried out within a multidisciplinary hospital setting, with findings contributing to the diagnostic and treatment planning process. Video consultation is available for international patients.
