Assoc. Prof. Yasemin Koyuncu, MD

Assoc. Prof. Yasemin Koyuncu, MD is a dermatologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where she practices in the Dermatology unit. Her clinical work covers dermatological diseases, venereal diseases and cosmetic dermatology, and she has more than 33 years of experience in medicine.

Dr. Koyuncu graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1993 and completed her specialization at the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases in 1998. She then worked at Bayındır Medical Center from 1998 to 2000 and at Med-Art Medical Center from 2000 to 2001. Between 2001 and 2006 she worked at Başkent University Faculty of Medicine, where she was appointed Associate Professor in 2006. In the same year she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. She is a member of the Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Association and the Turkish Dermatology Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Koyuncu’s practice spans medical dermatology, venereal diseases and cosmetic dermatology. In medical dermatology, she evaluates and treats conditions affecting the skin, hair and nails. Her published work reflects this range: it includes a case-control study of nail disorders in hemodialysis patients and renal transplant recipients, a study on the role of psychological factors in alopecia areata and the impact of the disease on quality of life, a report on ungual alternariosis in a renal transplant recipient, and papers on perforating dermatoses in children and familial aquagenic acrokeratoderma. She has also published on angioedema and urticaria due to isotretinoin therapy and on erythematous and hypopigmented patches on the face.

In cosmetic dermatology, her published work includes a preliminary study on the treatment of keloids and hypertrophic scars with dermojet injections of bleomycin and a paper on injection of hyaluronic acid for the treatment of nasolabial wrinkles. Whether a particular medical or cosmetic treatment is appropriate depends on an individual assessment of the patient’s skin condition, medical history and expectations, which Dr. Koyuncu reviews and discusses with each patient during the consultation.

How Dr. Koyuncu works with international patients

Dr. Koyuncu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
