In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproductive treatment in which eggs are collected from the ovaries and fertilized with sperm in a specialized laboratory. One or more embryos are then transferred to the uterus. Before treatment, both partners are assessed so that the protocol — stimulation medication, timing, laboratory technique and the number of embryos transferred — can be individualized.
