Cervical cancer screening at Acibadem is a short three-step visit for women aged 21 and over, a gynaecology examination, a pelvic ultrasound and a ThinPrep Pap or HPV test, at a JCI-accredited hospital in Istanbul.
The Cervical Cancer Screening Program is a short, focused visit for women aged 21 and over: a gynaecology examination, a pelvic ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries, and a liquid-based ThinPrep Pap test: the physician decides on the day which pathology test is most appropriate, and HPV testing can be combined with it. Cervical cancer develops slowly from pre-cancerous changes caused by persistent HPV infection, which is why regular screening finds problems at a stage where treatment is simple.
The sample is processed in Acibadem’s pathology laboratory and reported within a few working days; the result is sent to you in English with the gynaecologist’s recommendation on the next screening interval.

The gynaecology examination with a ThinPrep Pap test screens for cervical pre-cancer and pelvic conditions; HPV testing identifies the virus behind most cervical cancers years before cell changes appear.

Who should consider cervical cancer screening
- Women from 21 who have never been screened, or whose last Pap test was more than three years ago.
- Women who want HPV status assessed alongside cytology, for example before or after HPV vaccination.
- Women with irregular bleeding or pelvic symptoms who want a gynaecological examination with ultrasound in the same visit.

How long it takes
Plan for one to three hours. A coordinator plans the sequence, laboratory first while you are fasting, then imaging and examinations, so that you move through the hospital without waiting, and stays reachable throughout the visit.
How to prepare
- Gynaecology. Avoid vaginal medication, tampons and intercourse for 48 hours before the appointment, and try to book outside your period.
- Records and medicines. Bring previous reports, imaging and a complete list of your medicines. Take your usual medication unless the team tells you otherwise when confirming the appointment.
Results, report and follow-up
The large majority of laboratory results are ready the same day and are reviewed with you by the check-up physician before you leave; a written report in English follows, together with digital copies of your images and reports.
A few items take longer, pathology results (HPV or Pap test) usually follow within a few working days. They are sent to you in English, and if anything needs discussion the physician arranges a call or an online consultation.
If a result needs a closer look, the relevant specialist is in the same hospital: additional imaging, a biopsy or a consultation can usually be arranged within days, and you decide how to proceed with the full picture in hand. Nothing in a check-up replaces care for existing symptoms, if you have a specific complaint, tell the team so the right specialist sees you first.

The quote covers every examination, test and imaging study listed on this page, the physician review, the written report in English, hospital coordination and interpreter support.
Not included are travel and accommodation, tests the physician recommends in addition to the program, and any treatment that follows from a finding, each is quoted separately before it is performed.
