Prof. Ahmet Alponat, MD

Prof. Ahmet Alponat, MD is a general surgeon at Acibadem Bodrum Outpatient Clinic in Muğla, where he works within the General Surgery unit. Dr. Alponat graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1985. He began specialty training at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1986 and completed it in the Department of General Surgery in 1992. During this period he was a clinical observer at the Royal Free Hospital Department of Surgery in London (1989) and at the National University Hospital Department of Surgery in Singapore (1991). In 1994 he joined Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine Department of General Surgery, and in 1995 he worked at the National University Hospital Department of Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Endoscopy Center. He became an Associate Professor at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine in 1997 and a Professor in 2003. In 2002 he was a clinical observer at the Hamburg University, Germany, Endoscopy Center. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2008. He is a member of the Turkish Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery, the National Endoscopic Laparoscopic Surgery Association, the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia, the Hernia Association, the National Surgery Association, the Kocaeli Cancer Association, the Kocaeli Surgical Association and the Kocaeli Medical Chamber. His published work includes studies on hernia repair, adhesion prevention in incisional hernia models, a randomized comparison of minisite and conventional cholecystectomy, and early international results of laparoscopic gastrectomies.

Clinical focus

Dr. Alponat’s practice covers a broad range of general surgery. In anorectal surgery he treats hemorrhoids, anal fissures and other anorectal diseases. His digestive system work includes cholecystitis treatment, surgery for gallbladder and biliary tract cancers, colorectal cancer surgery and other digestive system surgery. He also performs inguinal hernia surgery, thyroid surgery and mastectomy.

Treatment decisions depend on the individual diagnosis, the findings of examination and imaging, and the patient’s general health. Not every condition requires surgery, and the options discussed will reflect the specific clinical situation.

How Dr. Alponat works with international patients

Dr. Alponat consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
