Dr. Aliye Sevil Sarıkaya

Dr. Aliye Sevil Sarıkaya is a physician in Growth and Adolescence at Acibadem International Hospital (İstanbul). Her clinical work is centered on pediatric endocrinology, the field of medicine that deals with hormonal, growth and metabolic conditions in children and adolescents. She evaluates and manages children with growth delay, short stature, early puberty, diabetes, thyroid disorders, adrenal gland disorders and congenital metabolic disorders, and she also sees patients with disorders of sexual development. Dr. Sarıkaya graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1982. She then completed her specialty training in Pediatrics at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1991, followed by subspecialty training in Pediatric Endocrinology at the same faculty in 2000. In these situations, the evaluation typically looks at the child’s growth pattern over time, family history, physical findings and, where appropriate, hormonal and other laboratory results, in order to distinguish normal variation from a condition that may need treatment or follow-up. Growth delay, short stature and early puberty are among the concerns she sees most often.

Dr. Sarıkaya also manages pediatric thyroid disorders, pediatric diabetes and pediatric adrenal gland disorders, as well as congenital metabolic disorders, which are conditions present from birth that affect how the body processes nutrients and other substances. In addition, she sees children and adolescents with disorders of sexual development, including intersex variations and differences of sex development. Care in these areas is generally planned on an individual basis, taking into account the child’s age, stage of development and overall health, and may involve long-term monitoring rather than a single intervention.

How Dr. Sarıkaya works with international patients

Dr. Sarıkaya consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as laboratory and pathology results, growth records, ultrasound or other imaging reports, hormonal test results, discharge summaries and details of any previous treatment, and arranges the appointment and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options and next steps. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their child’s situation with Dr. Sarıkaya before or instead of traveling, although some assessments, particularly those involving physical examination, growth measurement or laboratory testing, may need to be completed in person.
