Prof. Alp Dinçer, MD

Prof. Alp Dinçer, MD is a radiologist at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Radiology unit. His professional interests are computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, and his role is to support the diagnostic evaluation of patients through these imaging methods. He has more than 38 years of experience in medicine and consults in Turkish and English.

Dr. Dinçer graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1988 and completed his specialty training in radiology at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1992. From 1992 to 2003 he worked at Radyomar MR Center. In 2004 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, and in 2011 he became an Associate Professor at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine. He is a member of the Radiology Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Dinçer’s clinical work centers on two cross-sectional imaging methods: computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In this work, an examination is planned according to the clinical question raised by the referring physician, performed with a suitable protocol, and reported so that the findings can inform diagnosis, treatment planning and follow-up. Where earlier examinations exist, they can be compared with new images so that any change over time is documented.

His published work reflects a sustained interest in neuroradiology and in the technical application of MRI. He has co-authored papers on clinical proton MR spectroscopy in central nervous system disorders, single voxel proton MR spectroscopy findings in typical and atypical intracranial meningiomas, 3-Tesla MR imaging of the trigeminal nerve in asymptomatic individuals, an intraoperative 3-Tesla MRI system applied in low-grade glioma resection, and the clinical and radiologic features of Baló’s concentric sclerosis. He has also contributed to genetic studies of severe brain malformations and human cerebral cortex neurogenesis, and to earlier research on the percutaneous treatment of hydatid cysts of the liver, lungs and abdomen.

How Dr. Dinçer works with international patients

Dr. Dinçer consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including whether further CT or MRI examinations are appropriate in the individual situation. Video consultation is also available for international patients.
