Prof. Dr. Alpay Turan Sezgin

Prof. Dr. Alpay Turan Sezgin is a cardiologist with more than 22 years in medicine. He works in the Cardiology Department of Acibadem Health Group, which he joined in 2014. His clinical and academic work has centered on coronary artery disease, left ventricular function, hypertension and the evaluation of patients with implanted cardiac devices.

Dr. Sezgin attended Izmir Ataturk High School from 1981 to 1984 and graduated from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 1992. He completed his training in Cardiology at Inonu University Faculty of Medicine in 2000. From 2004 to 2010 he served as Associate Professor at Başkent University Faculty of Medicine Department of Cardiology Adana Practice and Research Hospital, and from 2010 to 2014 as Professor at Başkent University Faculty of Medicine Department of Cardiology Istanbul Application and Research Hospital, Adana. His experience also includes time at Cairo Institute of Cardiology in 2010 and at Haddasah University,Division of Cardiologoy in 2011. He is a member of the Başkent University Ethics Committee, the Southern Heart Association and the Adana Rotary Club.

Clinical focus

Dr. Sezgin evaluates and treats patients with coronary artery disease, including the assessment of coronary artery lesions and coronary collateral circulation, and their relationship to left ventricular dysfunction. He also sees patients after acute myocardial infarction, where his work has addressed late potentials and ventricular repolarization abnormalities. A further area of his practice is hypertension, including blood pressure non-dipping, in which the expected nocturnal decline in blood pressure is reduced or absent.

In the field of cardiac devices, Dr. Sezgin performs implantable cardioverter-defibrillator evaluation and permanent pacemaker evaluation. His published research, appearing between 1997 and 2002, includes studies on coronary collateral circulation and left ventricular function in coronary artery disease, the possible effects of mobile telephones on implantable cardioverter defibrillators, the distribution of coronary artery lesions in patients with permanent pacemakers, ventricular repolarization in deaf-mute children and during hemodialysis, the effect of trimetazidine on late potentials after acute myocardial infarction, and the loss of nocturnal blood pressure decline in patients with nasal polyposis. Each patient is assessed individually, and any recommendation depends on the findings of the clinical evaluation.

How Dr. Sezgin works with international patients

Dr. Sezgin speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
