Atilla Aslan, MD

Atilla Aslan, MD is a radiologist who practices in the Radiology unit at Acibadem Bahçeşehir Outpatient Clinic and Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. He has more than 36 years in medicine, and his work centers on diagnostic imaging, including X-ray, fluoroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound. Much of his career has been spent in MRI departments, where he has held both specialist and unit-leadership roles.

Dr. Aslan graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1990 and completed his radiology training at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1998. In 1998 he worked as a specialist doctor at Başkent University Faculty of Medicine Department of Radiology in Ankara before moving to İstanbul, where he was Head of the MRI Unit at Koşuyolu Imaging Center, full-time from 1998 to 2002 and part-time from 2002 to 2004. From 2002 to 2008 he served as a radiology specialist at EGM İstanbul Police Hospital-Üsküdar State Hospital. Between 2004 and 2008 he worked part-time in the MRI Unit of Memorial Şişli Hospital Department of Radiology, and in 2008 at Memorial Şişli Hospital Department of Radiology. From 2017 to 2021 he was a Radiology Specialist at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital Department of Radiology, and from 2021 to 2022 he was the Responsible Radiologist of the MRI Department at Sonomed Medical Imaging Center. He is a member of TRD, TTB-İTO and TMRD.

Clinical focus

Dr. Aslan’s areas of expertise cover the main diagnostic imaging modalities used in a hospital radiology department. These include X-ray imaging and fluoroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound imaging. Each of these methods provides a different type of information, and the choice of examination depends on the clinical question raised by the referring physician and the patient’s individual circumstances.

He also performs CT-based examinations such as CT colonography, virtual colonoscopy and virtual angiography. These studies use CT data to produce images of the colon or blood vessels, and the radiologist’s role is to interpret the findings and report them to the treating team, who then discuss the implications and any further steps with the patient. Imaging findings are generally considered together with the patient’s history, examination and other test results.

How Dr. Aslan works with international patients

Dr. Aslan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as earlier MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant, and a discussion of which imaging examinations may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before traveling.
