Aykut Ayyıldız, MD

Aykut Ayyıldız, MD is an anesthesiologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Anesthesiology & Reanimation unit. His areas of expertise are anesthesiology, reanimation and intensive care. In this role he is involved in the anesthetic care of patients around surgical procedures and in the management of critically ill patients who require intensive care support.

Dr. Ayyıldız graduated from Anafartalar High School in 1992 and from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1999. He completed his specialty training in Anesthesiology and Reanimation at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2005 and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in the same year. He is a member of the Turkish Anesthesiology and Reanimation Association and the Turkish Intensive Care Association. His scientific work includes poster presentations at national and international congresses and a journal article published in Türk Anest Rean Der Dergisi in 2010.

Clinical focus

Anesthesiology covers the assessment of patients before surgery, the planning and delivery of anesthesia during a procedure, and monitoring in the recovery period. Dr. Ayyıldız’s practice in this field is complemented by his training and experience in reanimation and intensive care, which involve the support of patients whose vital functions are compromised, including those who need mechanical ventilation after major surgery, trauma or serious illness.

His published and presented work reflects these interests. He was a co-author of a poster on intensive care nurses’ knowledge of the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia, presented at the 16th International Intensive Care Symposium in İstanbul in 2007, and of a journal article on intensive care nurses’ clinical research on ventilator-associated pneumonia, published in Türk Anest Rean Der Dergisi in 2010. He also contributed to an experimental study on artificial respiration strategies and ventilator-associated lung injury in a rat model, presented at the XIIth National Intensive Care Congress in 2004, and to a case report on pulmonary arteriovenous fistula formation after penetrating thoracic trauma, presented at the 44th Turkish Anesthesia and Reanimation Congress in 2010.

How Dr. Ayyıldız works with international patients

Dr. Ayyıldız consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients.
