Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aylin Altan Kuş

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aylin Altan Kuş is a radiology specialist who practices in the Radiology unit at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. Her work centers on diagnostic imaging, with particular interest in gastrointestinal oncology imaging, multidetector CT colonography, virtual colonoscopy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT). She has more than 21 years in medicine and is a member of TRD (Turkish Radiology Association), TTB (Turkish Medical Association) and the Urogenital Radiology Association.

Dr. Kuş graduated from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 2005 and completed her radiology training at Taksim Training and Research Hospital in 2011. She then worked as a specialist doctor at Siirt State Hospital (2012–2013), at Maltepe State Hospital with Ansamed Health Services (2013–2014) and at Istanbul Cerrahi Hospital (2014–2015). In 2015 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services and took up her position as Associate Professor at Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Atakent Hospital.

Clinical focus

A central area of Dr. Kuş’s practice is gastrointestinal oncology imaging, in which cross-sectional imaging is used to assess the digestive organs in patients with known or suspected tumors and to support the treating team in planning and follow-up. Within this field she has a specific interest in multidetector CT colonography, also referred to as virtual colonoscopy. This examination uses CT data to produce detailed images of the colon and may be considered as an imaging-based evaluation of the large bowel in selected patients, depending on the clinical question and the recommendation of the referring physician.

Dr. Kuş also works with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) more broadly. How Dr. Kuş works with international patients

Dr. Kuş consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where appropriate and a discussion of the available options.
