Banu Ulusoy, MD

Banu Ulusoy, MD is a Clinical Laboratory specialist at Acibadem Bursa Hospital in Bursa. Dr. Ulusoy’s clinical work is laboratory based. In clinical biochemistry and laboratory medicine, she is involved in the performance and interpretation of biochemical tests that help treating physicians assess a patient’s condition and monitor the course of treatment. Her expertise in hematology laboratory testing covers the laboratory side of blood cell analysis, and her background in clinical laboratory management reflects her earlier supervisory roles in biochemistry, hematology and clinical laboratory services in Bursa. Laboratory results are reviewed in the context of the patient’s clinical picture and are used to support, rather than replace, the assessment made by the treating clinical team.

Dr. Ulusoy has contributed to peer-reviewed research in laboratory medicine. Her published work includes a study of T alleles and the TT genotype at the MTHFR 677C->T locus and C alleles and the CC genotype at the MTHFR 1298A->C locus among healthy subjects in Turkey, examining their impact on homocysteine and folic acid status and reference intervals (Cell Biochemistry and Function, 2009). She has also co-authored studies on resistin, ghrelin and leptin concentrations in human breast milk and their relationship to maternal hormonal status and duration of lactation (Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, 2008; Acta Paedriatrica, 2007; International Breastfeeding Journal, 2006), and on the oxidation of apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins and serum paraoxonase/arylesterase activities in major depressive disorder (Progress in Neuropsychopharmacology and Biologic Psychiatry, 2006).

How Dr. Ulusoy works with international patients

Dr. Ulusoy speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who need them. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, including laboratory and pathology results, imaging reports such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant and a discussion of the available options. Because laboratory findings are interpreted alongside the patient’s clinical information, complete and recent previous results are helpful for a case review.
