Palliative care addresses the needs of patients with advanced or life-limiting illness, with attention to the relief of symptoms, comfort and communication with patients and their families about the goals of treatment. Dr. Ören’s training in anesthesiology and reanimation underpins her work across these areas, and the approach taken for any individual patient depends on their condition, their existing treatments and a careful clinical assessment.

How Dr. Ören works with international patients

Dr. Ören consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options that may be considered. Because intensive care patients are often unable to attend a consultation themselves, family members or accompanying physicians frequently take part in these discussions. Video consultation is available for international patients, which can be used for an initial review of a case or for follow-up discussions where an in-person examination is not required. Any recommendations given during a video consultation are preliminary and depend on the completeness of the records provided and on subsequent clinical evaluation.
