Belgin Karaca, MD

Belgin Karaca, MD is a radiologist at the Acibadem Bağdat Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul, where she works within the Radiology unit. Dr. Karaca graduated from Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine in 1989. She completed her specialty training in radiology at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital in 1997, having worked at the same hospital between 1993 and 1997. From 1997 to 1999 she practiced at MED American Polyclinic. In 1999 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, where she has continued to work in diagnostic radiology.

Clinical focus

The core of Dr. Karaca’s practice is breast imaging. She evaluates patients with breast diseases using mammography, a radiographic examination of the breast that is used to detect and characterize changes in breast tissue. Mammographic findings are interpreted in the context of the patient’s history and any earlier imaging, and Dr. Karaca may recommend additional views or complementary examinations when a finding needs further clarification. Where relevant, her reports are intended to support the referring clinicians who are responsible for the patient’s overall care.

Dr. Karaca also performs and interprets ultrasound imaging. In breast assessment, ultrasound is often used alongside mammography to examine areas of concern in more detail, to distinguish between different types of tissue changes and to evaluate findings that may be less clearly visible on a mammogram. Ultrasound imaging is also applied to other clinical questions where a radiologist’s assessment is requested. In all cases, the aim of the imaging is to provide a careful diagnostic evaluation that can be used by the treating physician to decide on the next steps, which may include follow-up imaging, further tests or referral to another specialty.

How Dr. Karaca works with international patients

Dr. Karaca consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as earlier mammography or ultrasound reports, MRI or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the clinic visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the imaging options that may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their imaging findings or an initial assessment before deciding whether to travel; a video consultation can review reports and images that have already been performed but cannot replace an in-person examination or new imaging when these are needed.
