Berkun Koncay, MD

Berkun Koncay, MD is a pediatrician at Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Pediatrics unit. He then completed his specialty training in Child Health and Diseases at the Bakırköy Maternity and Children’s Diseases Training and Research Hospital Department of Child Health and Diseases, finishing in 2010. He has been with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2009, and his current position is at the hospital’s Pediatrics unit in Bakirkoy.

Clinical focus

A significant part of Dr. Koncay’s practice involves the care of newborns. This includes newborn screening tests, newborn follow-up and the assessment and management of neonatal jaundice. He also follows babies born prematurely, including those with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, a lung condition that may affect premature infants and requires monitoring over time. Well-child follow-up, in which growth, development and general health are reviewed at regular intervals, is another core element of his work with young patients and their families.

Dr. Koncay also manages common conditions of infancy and childhood, such as infant colic, childhood rash illnesses and upper respiratory tract infections in children. He provides childhood vaccinations in line with the recommended schedule and has a clinical interest in pediatric infectious diseases. His practice extends to child and adolescent health more broadly, with attention to the changing needs of children as they grow. Care plans are discussed with parents and, where appropriate, with older children and adolescents themselves.

How Dr. Koncay works with international patients

Dr. Koncay consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical records, including previous pediatric reports, laboratory results, vaccination records, imaging reports such as ultrasound or X-ray, and any hospital discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s medical history and current symptoms, a review of existing reports and any previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options and follow-up. For families who are not yet in İstanbul, a video consultation for international patients is available, which can be used to review the child’s situation and discuss whether an in-person visit is appropriate.
