Prof. Bora Peynircioğlu, MD

Prof. Bora Peynircioğlu, MD is a radiologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Radiology unit with a subspecialty in Interventional Radiology. Dr. Peynircioğlu graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1999 and completed his radiology training at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2004. In 2003 he was a research fellow at Indiana University, Department of Interventional Radiology, and in 2005 he completed a clinical fellowship in Interventional Radiology at Michigan University. From 2005 to 2010 he was a lecturer at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Radiology, where he became Associate Professor Doctor in 2010 and Professor Doctor in 2014, a position he held until 2025. He also served as Board Member (Associate Professor Representative) of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine from 2013 to 2014 and as Assistant Training Coordinator (Program Director) of the Department of Radiology from 2016 to 2017. In 2025 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services.

Clinical focus

Dr. Peynircioğlu’s clinical work centers on interventional radiology and interventional oncology, which use image guidance to perform treatments through the blood vessels or through the skin. Within this field, one of his areas of expertise is transarterial radioembolization (TARE), a catheter-based procedure in which radioactive microspheres are delivered through the hepatic arteries to liver tumors. Whether TARE or another interventional option is appropriate depends on the individual patient’s diagnosis, imaging findings and overall condition, and is decided in consultation with the treating oncology team.

His published work reflects these interests. He has co-authored studies on transarterial radioembolization with Y90 resin microspheres, on survival factors after radioembolization in patients with unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, and on the laboratory toxicity of selective intra-arterial radionuclide therapy for primary and metastatic liver tumors. He has also contributed to consensus recommendations on imaging for hepatocellular carcinoma from EORTC and ESGAR, to CIRSE Standards of Practice documents on arterial access, on the endovascular treatment of visceral and renal artery aneurysms and pseudoaneurysms, and on the interventional radiology management of acute and chronic arterial mesenteric ischaemia, as well as to studies on the endovascular treatment of peripheral arteriovenous malformations and renal angiomyolipomas. He is a member of the European Radiology Association (ECR), the Turkish Interventional Radiology Association (TGRD), the European Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Association (CIRSE), the Turkish Radiology Association (TRD), the Interventional Oncology Association, the North American Radiology Association, USA, and Michigan University, Radiology Alumni, USA.

How Dr. Peynircioğlu works with international patients

Dr. Peynircioğlu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible interventional options. Video consultation is available for international patients, which may be useful for an initial review of records or for follow-up discussions.
