Prof. Burcu Yavuz, MD

Prof. Burcu Yavuz, MD is a psychiatrist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where she works within the Psychiatry & Psychology unit. Her published and presented research includes work on polypharmacy, treatment noncompliance and EEG findings in bipolar disorder, management of inadequate response in major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder comorbidity, and sociodemographic characteristics and comorbidity in obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yavuz assesses and treats a range of psychiatric conditions. These include major depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder, as well as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and atypical psychosis. Her practice also covers personality disorders, including borderline personality disorder and dependent and other personality disorders.

Sleep-related complaints form a further part of her clinical work. She sees patients with sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea, and her areas of expertise include the use of melatonin. In each case, the assessment is guided by the patient’s history, current symptoms and any prior treatment, and treatment options are discussed with the patient after a clinical evaluation.

How Dr. Yavuz works with international patients

Dr. Yavuz consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients, which may be used for an initial discussion or for follow-up where clinically appropriate.
