Environmental emergencies are conditions that arise from exposure to the surrounding environment rather than from an underlying disease alone. They may include the effects of excessive heat or cold, illness related to water or altitude, and injuries from animal or insect contact. Assessment in these cases takes into account the circumstances of the exposure, the patient’s general condition and any pre-existing medical problems, and treatment is directed at reversing the effects of the exposure and preventing complications. Because such emergencies may affect travelers who are unfamiliar with local conditions, a clear explanation of what has happened and what follow-up is needed forms part of the care.

How Dr. Türker works with international patients

Dr. Türker consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients and may be used to discuss previous reports or follow-up questions before or after a hospital visit. Emergency care itself takes place in person at the hospital, and the emphasis throughout is on timely evaluation and clear communication about the patient’s immediate medical needs.
