Cem Burak Kalaycı, MD

Cem Burak Kalaycı, MD is a radiologist at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Radiology unit. From 2010 to 2012 he worked as a specialist doctor at Hakkari State Hospital, and from 2013 to 2014 he held a specialist doctor position at Başkent University İstanbul Hospital. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2014.

Clinical focus

Dr. Kalaycı’s practice is concentrated on cross-sectional imaging. Magnetic resonance imaging is used to evaluate soft tissues, organs and vessels without ionizing radiation, while computed tomography provides detailed images that can support the assessment of many conditions across the body. Virtual angiography refers to non-invasive imaging of blood vessels reconstructed from cross-sectional data, which may be considered as an alternative to conventional catheter-based angiography in selected cases. The choice of imaging method depends on the clinical question, the patient’s history and any prior examinations. Dr. Kalaycı has contributed to the radiology literature. He translated Chapter 15, Abdominal Magnetic Resonance Angiography, of the textbook MR imaging of the Abdomen and Pelvis (translation editor Güner Sonmez). He is the first author of a case report in Acta Radiologica Short Reports (2014) on isolated sphenoid fungal sinusitis with a coexisting intrasellar mass lesion presenting with headache as the sole symptom, and a co-author of a 2013 report in Ear, Nose and Throat Ihtis Derg on unilateral congenital aplasia of the submandibular gland.

How Dr. Kalaycı works with international patients

Dr. Kalaycı consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant, and a discussion of which imaging methods, if any, are appropriate. Findings are communicated to the referring or treating physicians so that imaging results can be interpreted within the wider clinical picture. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their imaging or case before traveling.
