Dr. Şahan’s clinical focus lies in three related areas: anesthesiology, reanimation and intensive care medicine. In anesthesiology, this involves the assessment of patients before a procedure, the planning and delivery of anesthesia, and monitoring during and after surgery. Reanimation and intensive care medicine concern the care of critically ill patients whose vital functions require close monitoring and support. The type of anesthesia and the level of postoperative care that are appropriate depend on the individual patient, the planned procedure and any existing medical conditions, and are decided together with the surgical team.

He has contributed to peer-reviewed publications in these fields. These include a pilot study on the effects of cerebral oxygen changes during coronary bypass surgery on postoperative cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients, published in the Brazilian Journal of Anesthesiology in 2018, and a historical cohort study on the effects of sedation on spinal anesthesia-induced maternal hypotension in preoperatively anxious parturients undergoing urgent category-1 cesarean section, published in Turkiye Klinikleri J Anest Reanim in 2017. He is also a co-author of a study on the efficacy of intra-knee steroid injection in patients with stage 3-4 gonarthrosis, published in the Bakirkoy Medical Journal in 2018.

How Dr. Şahan works with international patients

Dr. Şahan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
