Asst. Prof. Ceren Meriç Özgündüz, MD

Asst. Prof. Ceren Meriç Özgündüz, MD is a psychiatrist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Psychiatry & Psychology unit. Dr. Özgündüz graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2010 and began her career the same year as a general practitioner at the Hakkari Provincial Health Directorate Communicable Diseases Branch. In 2011 she started her residency at the Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital Psychiatry Clinic, completing her specialty training at the Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital Department of Mental Health and Diseases in 2015. She then worked as a specialist doctor at Adıyaman Besni State Hospital (2016), Adıyaman University Training and Research Hospital (2018), Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura City Hospital (2020) and Erenköy Mental and Neurological Diseases Training and Research Hospital (2021), and from 2021 to 2024 she practised adult psychiatry at Madalyon Psychiatry Center Levent Branch. In 2023 she completed a doctorate in neuroscience at Koç University Health Sciences Institute. She is a member of ECNP (European College of Neuropsychopharmacology), EPA (European Psychiatric Association) and TPD (Turkish Psychiatric Association). Her published work includes a study on dissociation and childhood trauma in obsessive-compulsive patients, a study on childhood abuse and sexual dysfunction in social anxiety disorder, and a case report on mania with psychotic features induced by pramipexole in Parkinson’s disease.

Clinical focus

Dr. Özgündüz’s areas of expertise include obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, major depression and bipolar disorder. She also assesses and treats atypical psychosis and hyperactivity. In the field of personality disorders, her practice covers borderline personality disorder as well as dependent and other personality disorders.

Sleep disorders form a further part of her work, including insomnia and sleep apnea; the use of melatonin is among her listed areas of interest. Treatment plans are drawn up individually after a psychiatric assessment, and the approach depends on the diagnosis, the patient’s history and any previous treatments.

How Dr. Özgündüz works with international patients

Dr. Özgündüz consults in Turkish and English. For international patients, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, such as previous psychiatric evaluations, discharge summaries, laboratory results and any imaging reports, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing records and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
