Prof. Çınar Başekim, MD

Prof. Çınar Başekim, MD is a radiologist in the Radiology unit at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. He has worked in medicine for more than 40 years, and his clinical interests cover both diagnostic and interventional radiology, including Doppler ultrasound, computed tomography, abdominal and thoracic ultrasound, virtual angiography, ultrasonographic imaging and interventional radiology.

Dr. Başekim graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy Faculty of Medicine in 1986 and completed his radiology training at Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 1992. From 1994 to 2012 he worked in the Radiology Department of GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital, where he was appointed Associate Professor in 1999 and Professor in 2008. In 2003 he spent a period as a visiting physician in interventional radiology at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, USA. Between 2012 and 2022 he worked at Bayındır Health Group, and in 2022 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the Türk Manyetik Rezonans Association, the Interventional Radiology Association, the Turkish Radiology Association and the Medical Ultrasonography Association. His published work includes studies on magnetic resonance enteroclysis in small-bowel disease, imaging of pulsatile tinnitus, gadolinium-enhanced 3D MR angiography of pulmonary hypoplasia and aplasia, three-dimensional computed tomography of the styloid process, contrast-enhanced MR cholangiography before laparoscopic cholecystectomy, sonographically guided sacroiliac joint injections, color Doppler findings in mumps epididymo-orchitis and endovascular management of superior cerebellar artery aneurysms.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Başekim’s work involves ultrasound. This includes abdominal ultrasound, thoracic ultrasound and other forms of ultrasonographic imaging, as well as Doppler ultrasound, which is used to assess blood flow in vessels and organs. Ultrasound findings are interpreted in the context of the patient’s history, symptoms and any earlier imaging, and may be combined with other modalities when further clarification is needed.

He also works with computed tomography and virtual angiography, in which cross-sectional imaging data are used to visualize blood vessels. In addition, his practice includes interventional radiology, a field in which imaging guidance is used to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. His time as a visiting physician in interventional radiology at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, USA, and his membership in the Interventional Radiology Association reflect this area of interest. How Dr. Başekim works with international patients
